Knowing the clauses is the easy part

Satisfying them in a lodged set is where RFIs come from. ConsentIQ checks your actual submission against what each clause needs — and against the request patterns of your specific council — so the gaps are caught before you lodge, not after.

NZ Building Code — questions

What are the clauses of the NZ Building Code?

The Building Code is grouped into: B Stability (B1, B2), C Protection from Fire (C1–C6), D Access (D1, D2), E Moisture (E1–E3), F Safety of Users (F1–F9), G Services and Facilities (G1–G15), and H Energy Efficiency (H1). Each clause sets a performance requirement a building must meet. This page lists them all.

Which clauses apply to my project?

Most new buildings must satisfy structure (B1), durability (B2), fire (C), external moisture (E2) and the relevant services clauses. Features add clauses — a deck brings in F4, a pool brings in F9, gas brings in G11, wet areas bring in E3/G12/G13. Use the filter to highlight the likely set.

What's the difference between a clause and an Acceptable Solution?

A clause states the performance to achieve. An Acceptable Solution (e.g. B1/AS1, E2/AS1) or Verification Method (e.g. B1/VM1) is one way to show you meet it — you can also use an alternative solution. The reference shown on each clause is its common Acceptable Solution.

Do I need an H1 energy schedule?

If your work creates or alters the thermal envelope, yes — clause H1 applies. Produce it with our free H1 check, or the H1 Calculator. See also the document checklist for what to lodge.
